# What is a smart electrical panel and what does it bring to your business?

> A smart electrical panel is fitted with an energy analyser, a communication module and remotely controllable switching devices. It continuously measures and logs consumption and sends alerts on faults. In most cases it is created by adding modules to an existing panel.

A conventional electrical panel distributes power but tells you nothing. When a circuit is overloaded or a breaker trips, you usually find out when work stops. A smart panel does the same job while measuring, logging and alerting you when something goes wrong.

## How it differs from a conventional panel

The panel does not need to be replaced entirely. The difference comes from three added components:

- **Energy analyser:** continuously measures current, voltage, power and power factor for each phase.
- **Communication module:** sends the measured data to a server or the cloud via Modbus or Ethernet.
- **Remotely controllable devices:** contactors and motorised breakers let you switch a circuit without being on site.

**You may not need to replace your existing panel.** In most cases adding an analyser and a communication module is enough. We confirm this during the site visit by checking the panel's location, capacity and wiring.

## What it brings to your business

### Consumption becomes visible

Your bill shows a single number. A smart panel shows which line, which machine and which hour of the day draws how much. You can only save energy where you know it is being spent.

### You hear about faults before they cause downtime

Overcurrent, phase loss or voltage imbalance trigger a notification on your phone, so the team can step in before work stops.

### Reactive power is easier to track

Because the power factor is monitored continuously, a problem in the compensation system is noticed without waiting for the end of the month.

### Maintenance follows a plan

Operating hours and load history are logged, so maintenance is planned from data rather than after a breakdown.

## Where to start

You do not have to transform the whole site at once. This is the order we recommend:

1. Pick the line that consumes the most or is the most critical.
2. Add measurement and communication to that line's panel.
3. Collect data for a few weeks and review the reports together.
4. Extend to other panels based on the results and connect them to a SCADA screen if needed.

This keeps the initial investment small and bases your decision on real data.

### Does the existing panel have to be replaced?

In most cases, no. Adding an energy analyser and a communication module to the existing panel is enough.

### What does a smart panel measure?

Current, voltage, active and reactive power, power factor and consumption for each phase.
